Devotionals & Poetry for the Ring of Life

Where God Is Seen

A professional African American boxer throwing a focused left jab inside a dramatic, dimly lit boxing ring, illuminated by a warm overhead spotlight.
Visual Metaphor: The focus, discipline, and grit required for the ring of life.
There are many dreams and goals we seek, the plans for glory to display.
But what miracle is waiting to show, that there is still a world of hope,
every trial has its theme, a message of redemption for all to believe,
remember a miracle is where God is seen.

What is a win if just for yourself,
it is all about the team with a story to tell.
One day we will all look back and remember our lot,
a time and place to make our plot, to say we went for it,
all the way, in the ring with gloves, striving every round,
seeking the love and praise of the crowd,
and for the glory of the sport.
It’s not just about a boxing match, but a chance to dream once more.
But what about all those who need our claim,
this maybe a boxing story, but there is so much more to success and fame,
it’s all in a message of good news that is able to save.

What if God is still in the work of miracles?
What if He raises up one not so young,
but can still endure a good match, we all still have one good fight left.
Some are still holding out with hope, to get in that ring for just one more go.
The wait is long and the heart still strong, it has been a dream for the old and the young.
The world is waiting to see what may be, a chance to prove what moves the heart,
may the world see a miracle from God.

We all have a spark that lights up our soul, a chance to fly while touching the ground,
to soar in a world of make believe, to go for the gold no matter the fate,
it will all have been worth the final wait.

The Way of the Boxer

The way of the boxer, it’s all about the fight, the skill and art,
and the courage to go all out. Who is the real opponent in the ring?
The one you see is a mirror, a reflection of youth and vigor,
a test for the warrior within. Every man is a fighter inside,
but a boxer lets him out. A man who is not himself is caged and kept down,
one who wasn’t taught the fundamentals of the art,
the art of respect and grace we first give ourselves.
There is no fight without passion, no worthy cause without heart.

We all have a pursuit, something we plan, a personal dream to fulfill,
a purpose in finding ourselves, the one that God made.
So what is this warrior, the fighter within?
He is the one who knows his calling, who stokes the lion within his true self.
Every man has been made to be a servant for the needy, the helpless,
the vulnerable, the outcast, the downcast,
and the ones who cannot fight for themselves.
These are the warriors, the shepherds, the guardians of souls,
these are the ones who fight, and know the way of the boxer.

A Fighter’s Dream

Every fighter has a dream, it’s not so much about a glorious win,
but a chance to go the rounds with great enthusiasm and the love of the sport,
for they are the dreamers in this fighter’s court.
For a warrior’s spirit cannot stay down, even after the final round.

There is so much more than a boxer’s fight,
the story of God’s love is why the fighter fights,
to make the world know what real salvation means,
this is the main purpose of a fighter’s dream.
This dream is destined for outside the ring,
when we learn how to love and live what we mean,
every fighter has a goal to win,
but going the distance is his ultimate gain,
it’s all in the heart of a fighter’s dream.

Every match is but a few rounds,
what we learn in the ring we also live out,
there are certain virtues that keep the fighter sound,
love for life is paramount, and family is a man’s crown.
A determination to win at life is the motivation behind every fight,
it’s more than footwork inside the ring,
it’s the life we live after the boxing match,
a pursuit of love and service for all of life.
